OUR STORY

Where Shadows Meet Petals

Look, I'll be honest with you – I never planned on becoming Vancouver's go-to person for moody, dramatic florals. Started out doing the usual weddings with white roses and baby's breath back in 2018, ya know? But something felt... off. Too safe, too predictable.

One evening I was closing up shop and noticed these almost-black dahlias sitting in the corner – they'd been there for days 'cause nobody wanted 'em. Everyone's looking for bright and cheerful, right? But these dark beauties had this incredible depth, this mystery that spoke to me. I paired them with deep burgundy ranunculus and some moody eucalyptus, and boom – everything changed.

Turns out there's a whole crowd of people out there who don't want the typical Instagram-perfect pastel vibes. They want bold. They want drama. They want florals that make a statement and leave people remembering their event for years.

So here we are in 2025, and Onyx Flare Odyssey has become this wild journey into unexplored botanical territory. We're pushing boundaries, mixing textures you wouldn't normally see together, and creating installations that honestly blow my mind sometimes. Every arrangement tells a story – usually a pretty intense one.

What Drives Us Daily

Not your typical flower shop philosophy – just real talk about what gets us excited to come to work

Breaking the Mold

We're not gonna apologize for being different. Dark florals aren't "depressing" – they're sophisticated, edgy, and honestly way more interesting than another white hydrangea arrangement. We've built our reputation on doing what others won't.

Personal Touch Always

Every client gets my personal attention. No cookie-cutter packages here – we sit down, talk about your vision, maybe share some wine, and figure out exactly what'll make your event unforgettable. This isn't transactional for us.

Quality Over Everything

Yeah, we're not the cheapest option out there. But you're getting blooms sourced from the best growers, arrangements that last way longer than standard fare, and designs that people will literally photograph all night. Worth it? Our clients seem to think so.

The Journey So Far

From a crazy idea to Vancouver's boldest floral studio

Summer 2018

Opened up a tiny studio on Commercial Drive with basically no plan and a whole lot of determination. First month's rent came from my savings and honestly, a bit of panic.

Studio Opening

Fall 2019

First big wedding contract – a Gothic-inspired ceremony at an old estate. The couple wanted "vampiric romance" and we absolutely delivered. Photos went semi-viral and suddenly we had a waiting list.

Gothic Wedding

Spring 2021

Survived the pandemic (barely) by pivoting to luxury gift arrangements and subscription boxes. Turns out people stuck at home wanted beautiful things around them. Who knew?

Subscription Boxes

Winter 2022

Moved to our current West Georgia Street location – triple the space, proper design studio, and room to really let our creativity run wild. Also got our first corporate client (a tech company that wanted "anti-corporate" florals).

New Studio

Summer 2024

Featured in Vancouver Magazine's "Unconventional Creatives" issue. Also did a massive installation for the Vancouver Art Gallery that used over 3,000 stems. Still can't believe we pulled that off.

Now - 2025

Growing our team, pushing boundaries even further, and honestly just grateful every day that we get to create art that brings people joy. What's next? Let's find out together.

The Team Behind the Magic

It's not just me anymore – we've got a small but mighty crew of floral designers who share the same passion for bold, unconventional botanicals.

There's Marcus, who has this insane talent for structural installations. Seriously, the guy can make flowers defy gravity. Then there's Jade, our color theory genius who somehow knows exactly which shade of burgundy will make an arrangement pop.

And our newest addition, River, brings this whole experimental vibe – they're always suggesting we try weird combinations that shouldn't work but totally do. Together, we're constantly learning, experimenting, and honestly having way too much fun.
